Report on future workforce released

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Chennai – based workforce assessment company, AssessPeople, has found that engineering graduates look at the company size, image ad management profile before taking up a job, while no-engineering graduates give more importance to the type of industry and job security and not worry about compensation.

AssessPeople has launched a recent report on the ‘Future Workforce Expectations’, a study to analyze the expectations of students who pass out of engineering, non-engineering and management institutes. It was found that the top factor considered by Future Workforce to evaluate companies is different for not only different academic streams but also varies in each of the four regions, said R.Kannan, CEO, AssessPeople.

The report said non-engineering students always faced the threat of being replaced by engineering or management graduates. So they were willing to settle for a lower compensation in return for job security. The management students from premier colleges gave maximum importance to training, company image and the management profile. A management student from a non-premier institute gave more importance to compensation, job profile and the type of industry.

The report also stated that Internet had been identified as a major source of information for the future workforce by over 74 per cent of the respondents. In the North and the East, students looked at pre-placement presentations as a preferred source of information, while in the West they preferred Internet search and in the South personal interviews ruled the roost. Bangalore, Delhi (NCR) and Mumbai were the top preferred destinations of work while telecom, information technology, and financial services were still; considered the most preferred industry segments to work in.
