While the corona virus pandemic is intensifying with each passing day, this may be the first experience of working from home for some and it comes with its own set of advantages and challenges. Time management is one of the most common issues in the way of productivity under normal circumstances. It is challenging to keep up the productivity as there is a distinct possibility of taking things a little too easy when working from home.

Effective time management is essential if one wants to continue meeting deadlines when working from home.


Here are some tips on how to manage time while working from home:

Maintain a to-do list: It is important to organize and prioritize important tasks with a help of a to-do-list. It will be a key for motivation and also will add an additional layer of structure to the day. Just list the day’s tasks and start ticking away as you finish them.

Calculate your efficiency by keeping  track of time and work: Keep track on how much time is spent on each task by setting up an activity log. Before starting a task allot a time and after completing the task, just calculate how much time it took to finish it. This will give an idea of efficiency and speed. Accordingly, future tasks can be taken up.

Don’t forget to take breaks:  Regular breaks are important for mental balance. Set an alarm for regular breaks for meals, coffee, minor chores or simply to get up and stand, stretch or walk for a bit.

Stay away from distractions: While working from home, it is important to stay away from everything unwanted that is sure to grab attention. One shouldn’t have anything lying nearby that could be a source of distraction. For instance, a book of choice or a video game. One will lose track and spend too much time on them.

Maintain a healthy work-life balance: It is extremely important to maintain a healthy work-life balance by sticking to a routine and setting time aside. It is also advised to use the time saved by the freedom from the commute to develop healthy habits such as simple exercises at home, walking around while on a call or even cooking a healthy meal.


Time management has become more than just a tool for productivity, it’s now a way to create more meaning, stability and empowerment through all the chaos of change each of us face on an everyday basis.
